Onam is one of the popular festival of Kerala. It is also denoted as the harvest festival of Kerala. Onam is a ten days long festival. As per Malayalam calendar onam is celebrated at the beginning of chingam month. The festival holds an enormous amount of significance to preserve the culture and ethnic identity of Kerala. Onam festival is also celebrated to mark the home coming of king Mahabali. He was a demon but was known for his generosity and kindness, a keen devotee of Lord Vishnu.
In order to make the students familiar with Indian festivals and culture special Assembly was organised at HEMA HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL on 07/09/22 on Onam festival . Keeping the theme of enjoyment and celebration, students participated in many cultural activities like athapoo( flower rangoli) Thiruvathira( traditional folk dance) Onam skit related to the story about Mahabali and Vamana , harvest dance ,vallam kali (boat race) and sadhya (onam feast). Such celebrations bring the students close to each other’s traditions and culture.
